First FAQ What is the difference between 55+ and assisted living? 55+ neighborhoods are curated and age restricted and many actually offer benefits for those requiring additional assistance such as on site medical centers. Assisted living is another level of care. Assisted living is also often called continuum care.
Second, Are 55+ communities safe? Most 55+ communities are very safe and are gated, but not for the reason of keeping non 55+ people out! These are secure communities that are guarded in this way because many leave doors unlocked.
Third, Can my grandchildren live with me? You have to check with your guidelines but most of the 55+ communities follow the 80/20 rule whereby 80% of homes must be occupied by at least 1 person over 55. Usually, this situation is possible in 55+ communities.
Fourth, Can i move into a 55+ community with my spouse if they are not 55+ yet? Yes! This also qualifies under the 80/20 rule. One member of the household must be 55+ to move in.
Fifth, Are pets allowed at 55+ communities. This one may surprise you, not only are 55+ communities pet friendly, many offer pet programming! Pets may live better than residents in 55+ communities on The Main Line, just kidding.
