Are you ready to downsize and wondering where to start and how to stay organized? Hi, I’m Kimmy Rolph and I am a downsizing real estate expert. I have helped so many clients get organized and get their homes sold for well over ask. The keys to getting your home sold for the best price is a neat home, that is decluttered and a blank canvas for new families to move into. How do we achieve that if you have years of artifacts and keepsakes built up? We declutter and we carefully plan the move. Here are my top ten tips for downsizing.
- Start As Soon As Possible And Pace Yourself. There is not a huge rush to downsize, take your time, but start as soon as possible. The market is really good for sellers right now, so you will want to take advantage of the conditions.
- Focus On One Room At A Time. Focus on one room at a time, you can even focus on a corner of a room at a time. Just go room by room and you will see rapid progress.
- Measure Out Your New Space. When you are making progress on the decluttering room by room, consider your new space, whether it is a 55+ community or a universally designed house, and see what you will need. Make a list and use stickers to organize.
- Consider Your New Lifestyle. Think less maintenances more living. That is the beauty of downsizing, you are able to live according to your own rules and choose the items to take with you according to these principles.e
- Set Clear Decluttering Ground Rules, be clear about what you will and will not use and do not waiver on this. A great way to ruin progress on downsizing and decluttering is to make lots of exceptions to these ground rules.
- Divvy And Offer Up Sentimental Items. There is no time like the present to show loved ones how much you care by giving them things. If you are ready to part with things or have heirlooms that should go to your children, downsizing is the time to set them apart and give them away.
- Sell Or Donate Nonsentimental Items. If you are not attached to it, sell it or donate it. There is no reason to hang onto extra appliances or tvs or other items that still retain value, but are not useful in your new lifestyle.
