Get Paid to upgrade to a more energy-efficient home? Are you looking to make upgrades to your home? Is your power bill inching up with oil prices? It was recently announced that Weatherization Assistance Programs are being renewed and I want to explain what this means for buyers and sellers on The Main Line. I know many of my buyers today are concerned about energy efficiency. My sellers often are hesitant to make upgrades because of the expense of making their homes more energy-efficient, but this program can make these upgrades very affordable.
Under the latest spending package roughly, $3.2 billion was allocated to retrofit homes. This is not a new program and originally these home weatherization programs were instituted during the 1970s oil crisis. If you are eligible you may apply for upgrades including adding insulation to attics, swapping out refrigerators and appliances, and replacing windows and doors. Older homes that are poorly insulated, or homes that have features that rely heavily on unsustainable heating and cooling and energy, may qualify for federal funds.
This means that if you are a buyer or a seller and you are looking to upgrade some features in a home prior to selling or after buying, there may be help to do so. What are some of the ways to upgrade? You can swap traditional gas or oil-burning furnaces and air conditioners to electric heat pumps, change out appliances to energy-efficient appliances, change air conditioning, use concrete for insulation, and upgrade pool heaters.
