Assisted Living Checklist for Caretakers helps determine how to know when it’s time to help move your parents or grandparents into Assisted Living? This is a decision many families struggle with. It’s a big decision – you want your senior family members happy and safe. I have had personal experience with this tough decision and helped guide many Main Line families through this transition.
There are several signs that you’ll want to pay attention to.
1. Are they isolated? Isolation can lead to depression and an overall decline of health. Assisted living facilities provide a community for seniors. One thing I often hear from families and our elder Sellers is that they wished they had moved sooner. The social aspect is so important.
2. Are they taking their medication? As seniors age they are more likely to develop chronic health issues. Are they taking the correct medications and the proper dose and time? This was the main issue for my grandmother.
3. Are they eating and taking care of themselves? If they are not maintaining basic self care this will lead to continued health decline.
4. Are they able to manage their finances? Are you starting to see increasing numbers of bills not getting paid? I think most of us also fear that our senior family members will be susceptible to scammers unfortunately.
Many seniors would prefer to continue living in their own homes and age in place. Sometimes circumstances make that option too dangerous. You’ll want to make sure close family members are aligned.
